Integrating Technology in the Classroom

Integrating Technology in the Classroom | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

There are many technology-based tools that can be helpful for classroom teachers, and sorting through them to find ones that may be useful can be challenging. This web page describes pedagogical categories of technology tools for teachers; an infographic of useful technology tools (PDF, 275KB) grouped by the categories below is also available  so that teachers can more easily identify which technology tools may be of use to them. Teachers who may not use technology might want to start with just one tool, while those who are more familiar with some technology are encouraged to try a new tool that suits their classroom purposes.

The Difference Between Technology Use And Technology Integration

The Difference Between Technology Use And Technology Integration | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Using technology for learning makes sense. Technology creates access, transparency, and opportunity. Any smartphone or tablet is media incarnate–video, animation, eBooks, essays, blog posts, messages, music, games. The modalities of light, color, and sound all arranged just so to communicate a message or create an experience.

The Best Model to Support Education Technology Integration | Tech & Learning

The Best Model to Support Education Technology Integration | Tech & Learning | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

On a recent OnEducation Podcast episode (embedded at the bottom of this post), the hosts Mike and Glen got into a debate about what exactly is the “right” model of support when it comes to technology integration in schools? As they called out my name in particular, I felt it best to write this post in response.

Make no bones about it…Technology is a gift with a tail. It’s predicted that schools will spend $19 Billion dollars on technology in schools. This can range from a variety of devices, apps, software and various “STEM” tools but not necessarily servers, wires, and all that stuff in the closet.  Despite this large amount of money invested in technology, the amount of money to support and integrate these tools dwarfs the amount spent on the hardware and software. I’d also wager that a majority of that “support” money is primarily for personnel needed to repair and keep the technology running, not to integrate it into learning.

A really useful reminder of the differences  between 'just using' and 'integration' of technology

Hannah Monaghan's curator insight, March 30, 2014 7:33 PM

I feel that this is a very useful chart to get teachers thinking about how they need to integrate technology into the classroom in meaningful ways, not just using the technology randomly and with no thought to why they might be using it.
