Mustafa Suleyman: What is an AI anyway?

When it comes to artificial intelligence, what are we actually creating? Even those closest to its development are struggling to describe exactly where things are headed, says Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman, one of the primary architects of the AI models many of us use today. He offers an honest and compelling new vision for the future of AI, proposing an unignorable metaphor — a new digital species — to focus attention on this extraordinary moment. Video. The short road to self-employment in Somalia | Vocational education and training - VET | Scoop.it
In Somalia, decades of conflict and natural calamities have frustrated the normal coping strategies of its otherwise resilient population. To mitigate the impact of recurrent shocks to Somali livelihoods, the ICRC helps vulnerable groups start small businesses by offering vocational training to improve their skills, and then providing them with the capital investment or tools they need to start the business. This video shows examples of such programmes – training of young men as mechanics, carpenters and electricians and women as tailors.

Video. Living and Learning in the Metaverse

In this talk, I would like to take you on a journey to the trenches of VR development, where we will explore how we can harness the power of data visualization to turn data into insights in VR. Concretely, we will investigate two recent research projects I was fortunate to carry out: Training people to travel through a virtual building on IU campus as fast as possible, and exploding anatomical structures in the many organs that make up our body (such as the heart, the lung, and the kidney) and peeking inside them to see cells. On this journey, I would like to show that VR is the ultimate playground. Andreas Bueckle is a Research Scientist in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at Indiana University Bloomington. His interest lies in how we can use data visualization to improve performance and satisfaction for training and coaching in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and other immersive techniques in an increasingly data-driven world. Born and raised in Germany, he holds a B.A. in Media Studies from Eberhard Karls University Tuebingen, an M.A. in Communications from Berlin University of the Arts, and a Ph.D. in Information Science from Indiana University. After working as a video journalist, videographer, and video editor on projects in Germany, France, India, and the US, he switched to a more technical education and got his Ph.D. in Information Science, working with Dr. Katy Börner at Indiana University Bloomington. Aside from doing research, Andreas is an avid sailor and the Head Coach of the Sailing Club at Indiana University. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

What is Industry 4.0?- Video

In terms of global meaning, the Industry 4.0 concept is widely accepted as representing the digitalization of manufacturing. The ‘4.0’ provides a historical context, positioning this new phase as the fourth transformation in production. The first industrial revolution was depicted by mechanization through water and steam power the second saw the concept of mass production through electric power and the third resulted in the rise of the computer and automation. Now we have the fourth breakup in manufacturing – the creation of truly smart factories with cyber-physical systems and communication across the Internet of Things.

Canadian Vocational Association / Association canadienne de la formation professionnelle's insight:

Recovery in Europe is being hampered by the fact that many of the workers who lost their jobs to the crisis do not have the skills that the labour market now demands. Vocational training programmes help keep youth connected to the labour market by ensuring they have the skills that companies are looking for.
