"These arts and technology based activities could be used for your multiple means of engagement, representation, or expression, depending on where/how they are used throughout a unit. Many can be used as whole-class activities, continued small-group practice, or even for assessment purposes following a sequence of lessons. These fit Universal Design for Learning nicely when considering geometry goals because there are multiple ways for learners to absorb and process information as well as convey their understanding. HOW students explore the concepts to be mastered is the key- not just giving them the WHAT."

Smartboards, lap-tops and new methods made the difference in two elementary schools in a UDL project introduced by SET BC (Special Education Technology) in 2007/08.  Here is just a small glimpse of the remarkable results with students at these schools.

 

"Principals Lisa Salloum of Birchland elementary and Anita Strang of Panorama Heights elementary told School District 43 trustees that reading levels for learning disabled students doubled the first year after a Universal Designs for Learning project was introduced in 2007/’08 and tripled the following year."

After reading this article, it sounds like Forest Lake Elementary has created UDL (Universal Design for Learning) environments in their school. In my opinion, by applying UDL principles, a personalized learning environment can be realized.
