PDF of presentation from Mobile Learning Experience 2012 (http://mobile2012.org)

Presented by Felix Jacomino, Director of Technology at St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School, with Inge Wassmann

Description: “The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move
with it, and join the dance.” -Alan Watts
Learn what one technology team experienced from initiation to implementation of iPads in a school in the heart of Coconut Grove, Florida.
“Computer teachers” have transformed into “technology integrators” and move from within the lab to the classroom, the campus, and beyond.
Integrators must understand the 4 C’s of 21st century skills and how project based teaching and learning supports it.
• What comes first? Teachers? Students? Devices? Professional
development?
• Obstacles to overcome
• Resistant teachers: “This is just a fad!”
• Hardware/Software logistics

iTeach: The best 1:1 device is good teaching

iTeach: The best 1:1 device is good teaching | Technology in Education | Scoop.it
The best device a school can roll out is a teacher who can adapt to new and emerging technologies, does not always require formal training for learning and staying current, and is not tethered to a product in order to teach.
Janet Ilko's curator insight, May 25, 2013 10:29 AM

I am really feeling this as my iPods are already becoming obsolete. How do we use tech to create producers, not just consumers? Does it make a better reader or writer? That is what I ponder when I look at a new device or app.

Sue Osborne's comment May 26, 2013 10:23 PM
I love the comments about professional development not always being done in school hours. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing. Period.
Tamra Dollar's curator insight, July 19, 2013 11:09 AM

However, before addressing that question, I asked not only WHY iPads but WHY Technology? Because….

...What does this tangibly look like in the classroom? One English teachers asked where to even begin, so we started with a set of content-specific learning objectives.

These are my favorite apps for demonstration projects and presentations. Click on the icon or the link to connect to the iTunes Store. HINT: I use many of these apps with screenshots taken from what we are studying. To take a screenshot on an Apple device, hit the home button and the on/off button at the same time and the device will automatically capture whatever is showing on your app’s screen. Need a photo of Abe Lincoln? Google it, zoom and frame it so it fits the entire screen, then take your screenshot. You can now import it as a photo into most of the apps below.
