X-ray technology helps researchers reconstruct networks of interaction between ancient cultures. Working primarily with obsidian — a natural volcanic glass used historically for weapons and tools — the Max Lab team is able to tell where people travelled, who they interacted with and how craft traditions, such as agriculture, may have spread.
