The question I wish to raise here is whether we can teleport our soul, and, specifically, how best we might do it. I’ll suggest that we may be able to get near-complete soul teleportation into the movie (or video game) experience, and we can do so with some fairly simple upgrades to the 3D-glasses we already wear in movies.

The topic of “Life after death” raises disreputable connotations of past-life regression and haunted houses, but there are a large number of people in the world who believe in some form of persistence of the individual soul after life ends. Clearly this is an important question, one of the most important ones we can possibly think of in terms of relevance to human life. If science has something to say about, we should all be interested in hearing.

Manliness, Mansfield tells us in his book with that title, refers to the "spirited" (thumotic) part of the soul that Plato was very careful to distinguish from the soul's rational and desiring parts. So the fact of manliness is one reason we can turn to Plato to remember that we're not minds or bodies or even a mixture of the two. We human beings are some third entity that refuses to be reduced to either mind or body.
