Swirling storms on Saturn

Swirling storms on Saturn | Science News | Scoop.it
NASA's Cassini spacecraft has been traveling the Saturnian system in a set of inclined, or tilted, orbits that give mission scientists a vertigo-inducing view of Saturn's polar regions. This perspective has yielded images of roiling storm clouds and a swirling vortex at the center of Saturn's famed north polar hexagon.

An Aerial Drone That Could Recon the Skies Over Titan

An Aerial Drone That Could Recon the Skies Over Titan | Science News | Scoop.it

AVIATR is Barnes’s concept for an aerial drone powered by two small nuclear generators (known as Advanced Stirling Radioisotope Generators, or ASRGs) that could stay airborne over Titan pretty much indefinitely. The ASRGs together would only provide about 250 watts, or enough to power two light bulbs. But Titan makes flying easy and non-energy-intensive--it exerts seven times less gravity than Earth and hosts an atmosphere that’s three times denser.

The rings on the planet go 'round and 'round... | Science News | Scoop.it
Recently I posted an image of two of Saturn's shepherd moons, Pandora and Prometheus, captured by Cassini in a face-off across the spindly F ring.
Sakis Koukouvis's insight:

In the animation you can see Pandora and Prometheus promenade around Saturn (detail at right) as well as a "spoke" of light material moving within the inner dark edge of the A ring. Also many clumps are visible in the thin F ring—caused by embedded moonlets and the gravitational influence of the shepherd moons.
