A formula referenced by several web pages generates an interesting surface:

f(x,y) = exp(-x^2-0.5y^2)cos(4x)+exp(-3(x+0.5)^2-1.5y^2)

 We can clearly see that Mathematics says "Hi" to us with a somewhat terrifying, but beautiful formula.
