An infographic can hardly contain enough space to tackle the big, hairy challenges of American education. But the non-profit, Digital Promise, has tried to identify some of the biggest challenges — and ideas for solutions — identified by the 46 schools in their League of Innovative Schools that are trying new techniques. They address issues like competency-based learning and personalized professional development, as well as students’ ownership of their learning.

This infographic looks closely at the brain and it illustrates just how unique each learner's brain is as it is "shaped by continuous interaction of genetics and experience". They point out the importance of instructional strategies that meet the needs and interests of individual learners and that each learner needs to follow their own learning path to develop mastery. Understanding the neuroscience behind learning is critical if we want to develop effective student-centered learning environments where all learner's can achieve and succeed.

This infographic speaks to the importance of making those connections with and for our students. In other words, students need to know how they learn! When we personalize with students and teach them about their brain and how to learn, we are equipping them with tools for life-long success.

We divided the infographic in separate sections to explain in more detail how brain science behind learning supports the concept of Personalized Learning. When you review this and understand that each brain is unique and changes as it learns, personalizing learning makes sense.
