– A robot that could change the world.
R.A.M. (lat.
Learn more / En savoir plus / Mehr erfahren: https://www.scoop.it/t/luxembourg-europe/?&tag=Jeunes+scientifiques

It's called QT and it's the first robot manufactured in Luxembourg. QT's "parents" are two Iranians, Aida Nazarikhorram and Pouyan Ziafati, who founded the LuxAI company in 2016.
Aida is a doctor and Pouyan holds a doctorate in artificial intelligence and robotics. They have both been working on QT for two years, but only last year gained the support of the Luxembourg state, through the 'Fonds National de la Recherche' (FNR) scheme, and the University of Luxembourg, allowing them to found their company, LuxAI, and start producing their robot.
Social robot
"Given our areas of competence, we thought we would create a 'social robot' for the health sector. Then we realised that we could extend its applications to other sectors, such as education and training, it can also be used for leisure, entertainment or as a companion for children and the elderly," Aida explained in an interview with Contacto during ICT Spring.

The startup LuxAI was created following a research project at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg, funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) under its Proof of Concept scheme. The business model of LuxAI is developing and constructing so-called social robots.
Such robots can be used, for example, in the educational or health system, where they would support trainers and therapists in their work. The robots can be programmed to practice vocabulary with children or to make rehabilitation exercises with stroke patients.

A Luxembourg student has won a gold medal for his project to construct a humanoid robot whose movements are piloted by a human.
Max Arendt, 21, was the winner of this year’s “Jonk Fuerscher”, or young scientist Luxembourg award, for “Ram, a robot that could change the world”, a prototype composed of two hands and arms, which he made using a 3D printer. Having already worked on the project for three years, the student of the Lycée de Garçons in Luxembourg says he plans to continue until he has built a complete robot.
He was awarded a gold medal while representing Luxembourg at the China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest (Castic), in Chongqing, China. Also at the contest, the Fondation Jeunes Scientifique Luxembourg signed an agreement formalising the national “Jonk Fuerscher” award and making participation at the Expo-Sciences Luxembourg an official award in the Chinese national contest. Starting Monday, a team of high school students from Luxembourg will compete for the first time in the First Global international robotics challenge in Washington.
The Olympics-style challenge is designed to motivate teams of young people from every nation to learn and demonstrate skills in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
This year’s challenge is about providing access to clean drinking water now and in future. While over one billion people do not have reliable access to clean water right now, by 2040 projections suggest that there will be global water shortages.
“These students are doing much more than competing in a robotics game--they are learning that these challenges will only be overcome when people realise we are all on the same team, and that with technology, we can accomplish things we can only imagine by communicating, cooperating, and working together to apply technology as a tool for positive change in the world,” First Global said on its website.
– 19. Juli in Washington DC zeigen.
