Autism Discovery Tool

Kathleen McClaskey's insight:

Reviewed by Jo Booth OTR/L:

"It was intended as a tool to help kids on the spectrum, their families and caretakers identify both sensory styles and compensatory techniques so that they could open up a dialogue to communicate and share experiences. This little app however, has a much more powerful impact and reach. I consider it an essential app for all classrooms and families who deal with sensory issues, and not limited to those on the autistic spectrum alone."

DAF Assistant for those who stutter

I was thrilled to find this app for those children and adults who stutter.  My youngest is a stutterer and I can't wait to share this app with him.  Here is some additional information about this app:

"DAF Assistant can be used by people who stutter to control their speech fluency, slow down speech rate, increase confidence level, and develop good speaking habits.  It is known fact that people with stuttering problem usually speak better when do it together with another speaker. This, so called "chorus effect", causes significant increase in speech fluency. Delayed auditory feedback and Frequency-shifting Auditory Feedback simulate chorus effect by changing your own voice."

Free App Simplifies Braille, Aims to Revolutionize Texting

Free App Simplifies Braille, Aims to Revolutionize Texting | Leveling the playing field with apps | Scoop.it

"Braille Touch, a free app which simplifies Braille texting for the blind, aims to revamp keyboard possibilities for the mainstream smartphone market.

Georgia Tech's research team, spearheaded by Mario Romero, reports the Braille Touch app slashes costs for visually impaired smartphone users and could transform traditional mobile device typing.

Instead of relying on an expensive, bulky keyboard hook-up, Braille Touch works on a standard smartphone. It features six touchscreen buttons users press in patterns to signal the alphabet's letters, with the app announcing each letter so users immediately hear what they wrote.

It takes years to master reading Braille, but designers created the Braille Touch typing system for simplicity, and users can master the code in a matter of hours."
