Photon Flash Player & browser for iPad app review ~ appPicker

Photon Flash Player & browser for iPad app review ~ appPicker | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

by Rebecca MacLary

"Photon Flash Player for iPad, also called Photon Browser, by Appsverse Inc. is a great alternative browser for your iPad. It’s on sale right now, marked down to just $4.99, so get it now and save yourself five dollars.

"Photon Browser is a fantastic new browser with Flash capability. It was designed to enhance your experiences on your iPad, and it succeeds. The app is the #1 paid browser in the U.S. App Store and #1 in utilities for the iPad.

"Some of the features of Photon Browser include Flash browsing support that lets you use Flash apps, play Flash games, and watch and listen to Flash videos. You can also view websites that previously would not play on the iPad due to Flash content.

You can use multiple views or tabs while browsing, just like in Chrome or Firefox, split your screen to watch a video on one side and browse on the other, or browse using your full screen. You can also do trio mode and picture-in-picture viewing modes.

"The browser is full-featured, with private browsing, the ability to share via Facebook or email, an intelligent URL toolbar, and anonymous browsing.  It also offers bookmark support, AirPrint to print off web pages, and forward/back buttons for browsing history.

"You must click on the Lightning Bolt icon in order to view Flash sites."

Photon may not be new to some readers, but it is to me. Seems to be the best way to get Flash on an iPad or iPhone.

YouTube Capture- A Practical iPad App for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

by Med Kharbach

"YouTube Capture is definitely a must have iPad app for teachers and students. This app is developed by Google and, unlike the basic YouTube app, YouTube Capture allows users to record videos and upload them instantly and right from their iPad or phones and Instagram.

"Some of the fantastic features that distinguish YouTube Capture from the rest of crowd is the fact that it allows users to make use of YouTube’s stabilization, trimming, and automatic colour correction features – something that other video upload apps don’t. Another perk is the time limit which isn’t just a few seconds. In fact, you can record as long as your typical YouTube video would last, so all you really need to worry about is your Internet speed. Furthermore, you can upload and simultaneously share your videos with nearly all social media services as you go."

"Here’s a quick look at some of the skills you’ll learn in the free online course over at Modern Lessons. It’s a fun little side project I’ve built in an effort to make learning about education technology a bit more organized. Right now, most people stick to Google searches, social media chats, and follow some edtech blogs (like Edudemic!) to stay on top of things. But I thought it was time to go a step further and help teachers, students, parents, and anyone else learn how to effectively use technology to improve their lives. Hopefully this course helps you do just that.

How To : Visually Record Ideas Using an iPad

Visual recording is similar to audio recording: they both use the same concept that is : recording. One uses voice and the other uses visual cues like diagrams, charts, lines, arrows...etc. Think about visual recording as visual mind mapping.

This is Visual Recording and NOT (in this case) Visual Facilitation

How To Capture Ideas at Presentations and Events by Doing Visual Recording on the iPad

Robin Good: Rachel Smith explains in very simple words how you can use your iPad to capture and record visually the key ideas and concepts presented during a lecture, keynote, training class or presentation.

She provides a good round-up of four relevant tools that can be used for this task, analyzing their key pros and cons as well as providing logistic and technical advice on how to best organize and setup yourself for doing visual recording on the iPad.

As similar tools will provide more ready-made icons, templates and patterns available for this kind of real-time idea-capturing, this rare and pioneering visual recording work will begin to catch up even more rapidly.

Very useful. 8/10

Lecturing with an iPad | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

"After more than 30 years as a Professor, and despite my obsession with educational technology I still hold a fond spot for overhead projectors.  I believe it was more effective a tool for teaching than projected Powerpoint slides will ever be.  I stood facing the students, watching their expressions, which I could see since the lights were sufficiently bright.  I could draw on the screen and change directions as questions arose.  In fact I will argue that the ‘golden age of college teaching’ if there was one was stimulated by the addition of the roller to the overhead projector.  It allowed the combining of student response, just-in-time teaching, constructivist development and several other educational buzz terms in one simple device.

It’s been downhill ever since,

"…until I discovered I could do everything the overhead could do plus a lot more with my iPad."

iPad vs Computer - Study to compare student typing speed

iPad vs Computer - Study to compare student typing speed | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

by Brady Erin Cline

"Despite these limitations, this study seems to illustrate an important point: adults who have spent decades typing on a traditional keyboard, find it very difficult to imagine that students can be successful typing efficiently on a virtual keyboard. The evidence here, however, does not support this bias.  Maybe it just takes some practice. I was terribly slow typing on my iPad for the first 4 months, but after about a year, I type 35 WPM. I’ll admit to still preferring a traditional keyboard (60+WPM), but I’m now happy to write with whatever device (iPhone included) I have in front of me."

Via Dr. Susan Bainbridge
Jim Lerman's insight:

I think this question will eventually become almost completely moot. Voice to text software/apps are becoming more and more robust. I wrote my last book using Dragon Naturally Speaking.

I believe that in a few years most writing will be done orally. Just as cursive handwriting is disappearing, keyboarding will diminish. Speed will not be as important because for large jobs, dictation will replace it. Editing and note-taking can be accomplished without so much concern for speed.

In the meantime, it is interesting to see that there was only negligible speed difference among the students in this study.
