If you're new to Google+, or want to know more about using Google+, this article will help you get the most from Google+!

Patricia Daniels's curator insight, August 30, 2013 3:37 AM

A useful video tutorial here, just over 16 minutes long. It runs through the basics of using Google drive and how you can use it to collaborate with others. It also touches on Google Hangout.

I use Google Drive with my students as a writing space because I teach English via Skype. It suits our needs perfectly. Students create several folders e.g. some are homework spaces; collaborative areas such as wikis; creative writing pages and as a virtual space that we can jump into during the lesson to work on activities. It works for us. As a teacher I can dip into shared spaces at any time and guide and support learning which is a real advantage.

flea palmer's curator insight, August 30, 2013 6:56 AM

This is a really thorough tutorial and very timely as I'm currently exploring using Google Drive with students. Our dispersed team of Learning Technologists already use it for collaboration but there is not much use as yet by our academics and students. The ability to be able to integrate Drive with Google Hangouts is really powerful and has the potential to be a great tool for supporting Distance Learning.

Currently nanotechnology is mainly used to produce nanoparticles, or materials with very specific properties.  In the video http://youtu.be/mEH6tDLKcVU ;

the superhydrophobic coatings shown at the beginning are one example.  Graphene and carbon nanotubes are other nanoparticles with incredible potential in a variety of applications.

8 Free Tools to Easily and Instantly Create Videos in The Cloud

Creating videos and using them with students in the classroom is an important skill of the 21st century teacher. Some educators wrongly think that making a video requires software download and advanced video editing skills, a claim which has been rebutted by web 2.0 technologies. There are now several online and web-based tools where one can easily and simply create a video and share it with others. These tools do not need any software installation and , most of the time, needs only a quick and free sign up.

Curate Your Own Video Channels and Mixtapes With DragOnTape

Curate Your Own Video Channels and Mixtapes With DragOnTape | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it

Robin Good: DragOnTape is a great video curation tool designed for music fans who want to put together mixtapes to watch back on their mobiles, or that can be played at parties and events in a full-screen, back-to-back fashion.

DragOnTape which works both on the desktop and on your iPhone, allows you to easily search for any YouTube video / video mentioned on Twitter / Soundcloud clip and then to add it to your video-mixtape-collection.

You can drag and drop video clips on a timeline, move their order and position (albeit that's not always too easy), trim clips and make clips transition smoothly from one to the next with no breaks.

Obviously, just like I did in this test curated channel, you can bring any type of video content on any topic you like. These are 27 curated clips on content curation itself: http://www.dragontape.com/#!/4991003 ;

The playback interface is simply wonderful. Once you understand a few nuances it's impossible not to fall in love with it.

As I have said, the full compilation can be played back-to-back, while you have the option at all times to see the full playlist index and to jump to any clip you prefer.

Once completed your video mixtape can be easily published to the DragOnTape portal, as well as embedded into any web site or blog or shared with a direct link.

P.S.: While this is a great video curation platform that can be used for any topic, the spontaneous community of curators on DragOnTape has developed a spectacular trove of curated music mixtapes with some truly golden gems in there.

DragOnTape is free to use.

Excellent. 9/10

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: Top 11 Educational Video Websites for Teachers

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: Top 11 Educational Video Websites for Teachers | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it

The use of multimedia in the classroom is a great way of getting students engaged. One of the biggest challenges we all face today is how to hold students attention for a longer time. It seems like multitasking has taken every bit of attention from our students. No wonder,  the visual stimulus they are exposed to is huge : Tv, video gaming, social networking, texting, emailing,are but the emerging tip of the iceber and unless we seriously address this phenomenon  it will definitely grow out of control.
